Regionals Gymnastics meet

F's first gymnastics season is officially over.  They had their regional meet in Ft. Worth this past weekend and it was such an eye opening learning experience.  She competed over 2 days and there were anywhere from 5-8 states included in this meet.  (So lots of athletes, lots of talent)  The team will continue to practice year round and at this point she wants to continue with it so they will have fun practicing new skills and tricks.  The pictures loaded sort of randomly so I'll comment by the pictures.

There is a company that takes pictures on the floor while she's competing and here 2 of the pictures I bought.  It's so neat to see her in action.  :}

Her first even was the double mini.  She did so well and her passes looked really great but she put her hands down on the second pass, to save a fall, and we found out later that that is a huge deduction.  Lesson learned.  We're still so proud of her for doing so well under such pressure.

On Sunday she started with trampoline.  She had a really great routine and did well on it.  She got 5th place in her flight.

The Last event she had was the floor. As I've mentioned before, she's been having a mental block when she's competed on the floor at the last 2 competitions.  Her coach has worked so hard with her lately and she's come so far.  Far enough, that he even moved her up to another level because her flip flops were getting so good and so consistent.  At a Level 4 she had to do a power roundoff flip flop and then a power round off 2 flip flops in a row.  Still she was nervous (as were we all) if she was going to have the same mental block and just freeze when it came time for her to flip.  But our girl delivered and they were BEAUTIFUL!!!  She did them just as she was supposed to and they looked so good.  However, she touched her hand at the end again and got that big deduction.  :{  She ended up with 6th place on the floor, but we thought that was pretty good as the other girls in her flight have been competing at this level all year and this was her first time doing this pass.   Either way, we always tell our kids to have fun and do THEIR best and she definitely did.  That's all that matters to us and we were so proud of her for that.

Dad and A even got to come to this competition and watch her.  She loved having her family there to support her.

So we were preparing for our long ride home and I decided to check the standings right before we left.  For every age group and level, they take the kids with the top 10 scores in the ENTIRE region and have a podium ceremony at the end of the day.  F made it in the top ten for floor!!!!  We couldn't believe it.  How exciting that on her very first year she made the top ten highest scores in the entire region for floor.  So of course, since she'd worked so hard we stayed around for the ceremonies.  They played Olympic music and had the kids process onto the podium area.  It was so cute and F got a medal.

F's first double mini pass.  You'll see a step at the end but otherwise, a very nice pass.

Second double mini pass.  Check out the hight!!

Second floor pass.  The photographers got this great shot of her coaches looking at her after she completed her pass with huge smiles on their faces, just showing how proud they were that she did both of her flip flops and got over her mental block.  It was so neat.

On Saturday after her first competition we had the whole day to play.  We ended up shopping and just "hanging out"  It was a really fun weekend.  J was supposed to come with us but he had 2 soccer games last weekend, plus his end of the season soccer party, plus it was the last time his recreational soccer team will play together as most of them will play club soccer next year.  He didn't want to miss that, so we were lucky enough for him to be able to stay with friends.

Happy Brother and sister.

We let F get this bear on Saturday.  It matched her new regionals T-shirt and she named her Bella. :}

One of our stops on Saturday was at a boot place and A walked in their with a mission.  He wanted a belt buckle and SPURS!!!  He said to me, "Mom, the bad thing about this place is they don't have spurs!!"  ha, ha.   Our son has definitely turned into a cowboy.  Well we didn't buy him spurs but we did go for the buckle and he is so proud of it.  :}
