Out and About

While we were in Virginia we visited several different battle sites. (You know me, always making sure the kids learn a thing or two on our vacations) Anyway, the first place we went was Chatham manor. It was first used as a thriving plantation but later used as a post for the Civil War. Washington, Lincoln and Jefferson all came to the Chatham manor at some point in time. It was really neat to see and had a great view of Fredericksburg. There is so much history on the east coast, it's amazing.

The Lilies were just starting to bloom and they were so pretty
The chair used by the presidents as well as several major military personnel while visiting Chatham

We also visited where the Battle of Fredericksburg took place.
Innes house that stood during the war. On the inside you can still see tons of bullet holes from all of the shooting.
Memorial
This is called the sunken road and is the Original. It was used during the war.

The cemetery used for those that died in battle. There were about 15,000 people who are buried there and only about 3,000 of them are identified.
Battle at Chancellorsville. This is where Stonewall Jackson was accidentally shot by his own men. This ultimately led to his death.
